Veluz RTW

I get about 30 to as much as 50 new inquiries every day and I try to answer each and everyone personally.  Most are non Filipino overseas brides asking me to replicate some wedding gowns I've done for past brides.  I have a lot of emails too from stockists overseas expressing interest to retail my gowns.   Manila-based brides asking for appointments and brides whose wedding dates are closed already in my calendar.

I am overwhelmed but very grateful.
This has always been my dream and really, I cannot ask for anything more.
I have loving and very grateful brides.
I have an excellent staff that takes pride making brides happy.
I have a loving and supportive husband.
And most of all, I have beautiful and growing kids.

Suddenly, I realised I want more.
I want more time.  Time to devote to my family and time to cater to more brides.
I've always considered it a privilege that these brides want us to be a part of their most special day.
But really I - as a person -  can only do so much.  And I cannot customise each and every gown.  It will drain me, burn me out, and that is my biggest fear.
I do not want to lose the passion, but I also do not want this privilege taken for granted.
I want to do more.

Thus the birth of my RTW line.
This will enable more brides to wear our dresses.
This will address the stockists who want to re-sell my dresses.
This will lower the hurdles with a better system to accomplish more.
Just more ..

Took me months to think of gowns that will reflect how I see any bride.
Soft, fluid, silhouettes that celebrate the feminine figure, details that sing, gowns that will reflect the happiness every bride feels inside.
After all, it is still a girl thing :-)

Months of preparations, of fine tuning the sizes.
Endless discussions with our in-house illustrator, finalising the embroidery patterns.
Weeks of doing and re-doing the embellishments with my in-house embroiderers and beaders.
Assembling the production line and training them to do more.
And now, we are ready.

Now more brides, local and foreign, can experience how it is to be a Veluz bride.  To wear something so well  thought of. To wear something that has been done with so much pride.

I hope and pray that brides will love this as much as we do.
I and my team are so proud to present the Veluz Ready-To-Wear wedding gown collection for 2013.

Artist's Choice

Master Dino gave me this artist's choice album of my works a few months ago.
Gave me goosebumps.
Made my toes curl
I was so happy.

I had to get a flatbed scanner just so I can share this beautiful album with you.
I am still overwhelmed with happiness everytime I look at it.
Di na ko maiinggit sa clients nya, kasi may album na 'ko eh!
Uhmmm...konting inggit na lang :-D

Super thanks Master!

In memory of Alvin

Today, I found out that Janice Sy’s husband, Alvin, passed away.

They got married last February 10, this year.

I got a call from his sister informing us of his demise – cardiac arrest, he was playing basketball when he collapsed. Their family wants those who took part in their wedding informed.

I was shocked when I found out.

They were so in love. He’d be outside the fitting room everytime Janice fits. Occasionally plays with his PSP to while time away. And we’d share a laugh everytime Janice goes out of the room, feeling all giddy with her gown. He’d hold her head close to his body, sharing her happiness. He’d give me a big smile everytime I ask him if he’s excited for the wedding. Days before the wedding, I asked him again, and with a wide smile, he said “opo, sobrang excited na”.

I cannot fathom how Janice feels now.

I will pray for his soul but I will pray for Janice’ peace.

Please pray for her.

niko for veluz

I swear Niko will kill me for this heheheh

Clients usually ask me where I met Niko and how I got him to work for me.
Well here's the story...

One of my closest friends in college used to teach garment construction subjects in UP. Two of her students qualified to compete for the search for the Philippine representative to Concours International des Jeunes Createurs de Mode (International Competition of Young Fashion Designers). My friend asked me to assist them in making the clothes. One of the students was Niko's errr partner, did I mention Niko is a proud gay? :-) Opo, hindi sya talaga girl! hahahaha!

He was graduating from La Salle then and since they made my shop their official tambayan for more than 2 months, we got to be close. He was into shoes so I offered him the job to be my accessories designer when he graduates. He was happy, I was happier :-)

Since that time, its been five fruitful and productive years. Niko has since expanded the business from shoes and bags to include pillows, headpieces, brooches and cuffs. I've seen him transform from an artsy guy with a hellish artist attitude to someone I will trust to make my prom gown. ay! anuvah!! hehehe ;-) Niko is fitting a shrieking prom girl as I write this. Hey! surely every girl knows how important THE prom gown is! :-)

I've taught him how to fit, embellish and be organized. Believe me, I am not the kindest mentor. Naku, sermon ako ever! There were moments when he'd cry from sheer frustration and I'd let him. Custom making gowns is not all glamour, it's more hardwork and passion - a lot more. He has always been passionate about high fashion clothes and accessories, but was he willing to sweat it out with the mananahis and the liliperas? Was he willing to scour the dirty streets of Divisoria to look for the right fusible and the right tulle? Ayaw ko naman yata ng tumitili because he gets putik on his legs!

Niko was able to prove himself. He genuinely loves our brides and my brides looooove him!
He's been handling our entourage and mommy gowns for more than a year now. And I believe he's now ready to handle brides, even bridezillas! :-)

I asked Niko to make two Niko for Veluz wedding gowns for this weekend's bridal fair, and pwera yabang, they're beautiful! I went there yesterday, stayed on just to see how people will react to his display, and like a proud mommy, I got high when people started getting his calling cards.

But you should've seen Niko the night before the bridal fair! He wasn't able to sleep! He texted me at midnight, thanked me for the opportunity. And just like Niko, I replied - chos! :-)

See, I learned something from him too! hahaha!
Love you Niko!

Oh by the way, in case you're wondering, they're not together anymore :-)
His ex-beau won on his 3rd attempt and was sent to Paris to compete.
Yes, we made the outfit for that competition and it was awesome! I could've hired him too as a design apprentice, he is an extremely good designer. But it's not just talent, it's the attitude.

A Non-Bridal Entry

Sept 4 to 18, 2007

Went here, Jervis Bay. parang Pagudpod!

Asked my brother to take this picture, produkto ng sobrang inggit sa mga pre-nup shots na nakikita ko. Hehehehe!

And here, Blue Mountains, parang Baguio!

It really is unbelievably blue from afar, as in tina blue! Sayang I wasn't able to take a pic of it at it's bluest.
and then here, Berry -- parang Intramuros!

But I had to be here. Needed to have the most touristy picture of all :

otherwise, walang maniniwalang nakapunta ko sa Sydney!

Beautiful country. Clean and fresh, booger-free for two weeks! hahahaha!

I was here a couple of weeks back to visit my brothers and their families.
May as well take the chance and met up with some new clients and past clients. Missed Autumn and Eric and Desie lang. Sobrang kainis. Bitin ang two weeks.
Checked out the bridal scene. It's more exciting here! hehehe!
Took some lectures on bridal preservation. My gratitude to Ms. K of Preservation Australia for the one-on-one.

It was a very hectic two weeks, but it was so well worth it.
Missed my kids though, hirap pala.
Sobrang taas tuloy bigla ng respeto at paghanga ko sa mga OFWS.
Laki ng phone bills ko :-(
More pics.
With brothers and sisters-in-law

my nephews,

Taught the older one to play patintero even if he can barely say it, we played at the beach with my siblings and their wives, napagod na siya eh wala pa nga kami sa tumbang preso!
My nephew's comment - can't wait to teach this to my classmates!. pa-soccer soccer kasi siya eh, gawin ka ngang patotot! We had so much fun!! Ayan, na-miss ko na ulit sila :-(

My only regret - I should have brought winter clothes!!
Ang lamig! Maginaw! I really am a tropical animal. When I went to a bridal fair, I found the common greeting is about the weather that day.
"Fine weather today, ey? Sun's out"
okay na raw yun eh parang Tagaytay pa sa madaling araw!! Pinoys don't really do that, I realized that the weather here is always good and comfortable. Even with occassional typhoons. I love the tropics!

But I must admit, I got excited at the thought of dressing up for winter. The flabs didn't matter because there's too much cover, you can barely see it. ang sarap sana pumorma :-(

I swear babalik ako next year, at their coldest, with a vengeance.
makapag-ukay nga hahaha!
